Perfect Punches Gift Tag

Hello everyone!  Whew!  Are you as busy as I am?  I am sure you are.  Tis the season to be crazy busy.

I actually created and uploaded this video yesterday, but forgot to post it to my blog.  I got so busy with other things that it just slipped my mind.
This is another gift tag.  It's getting close to Christmas, but there is still time to create these fun and easy projects.  Maybe you can keep your little ones busy with it next week.

For this tag, I used the Perfect Punches stamp set and paired with with the Jolly Holiday designer paper...and some red glitter.  Nothing says Christmas like red glitter!

You will see that I had a little oops in the video.  I try to leave those things in so that you know that we ALL make mistakes...and they can be corrected.  Luckily, I had some extra tags right beside me when I was filming!  That's how Carissa saved Christmas!

I hope you are having a wonderful time preparing for my favorite holiday.  And I pray that you will take time to honor the Savior this season.

Merry Christmas!

Contempo Christmas Bitty Box

Hello everyone. I hope you are well.

This is going to be a quick post. I've been trying to upload this video all day long and now it's finally cooperated.

For this Bitty Box project, I used the Contempo Christmas card bundle, which includes the Contempo Christmas stamp set and the Jolly Holiday designer paper. You can visit my Stampin Up site for more information on this special bundle, available until December 16, 2010.

I hope you have a wonderful day!

Got Treats Gift Tag

Hello everyone.  I hope you are having a great day.  I've been super busy!  Tis the season, right?

Here is a fun project for you.  This year, how about creating your own gift tags?  It's a lot of fun and makes your gifts unique.  And you can coordinate it to match your wrapping or Christmas decor.

For this tag, I used the Got Treats stamp set, along with the Dot, Dot, Dot stamp.  I thought the dots would be a perfect background for the little gingerbread man.  Before stamping, I masked a portion of the tag with some computer paper so that I would have a space to write in.  It's a fun technique!

I hope you enjoy this little project.  I am hoping to do some other Christmas projects that aren't necessarily cards.  I love creating little things to give away and what better time of year to do that than Christmas time?

I am looking forward to school winding down.  My final is on December 14th.  Then I will be on break until January!  I am looking forward to the break.  My husband is a teacher, so you better believe he is looking forward to Christmas break too!

Have a wonderful day!

Punch Potpourri Gratitude

Hello everyone.  Let me start by wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving.  I hope your day is full of blessings!  I have so much to be thankful for.  And I am thankful for each person that reads this blog and watches my videos.

I had a crazy day today.  After a very insane morning, I came home to film this video.  You can tell I was very scatterbrained when I filmed.

For this card, I used the Punch Potpourri hostess stamp set and the Fabulous Phrases stamp set.  I also used the Woodgrain stamp to create an embossed background for this card.  I also used a few of my favorite punches.  I used the Bird punch, the new Decorative Label punch, the Modern Label punch (I don't know if I could live without this one) and the 2 3/8 Scallop Circle punch.

I finished the video, and when I looked at the card, I felt like it needed a little something more.  I added the stitching to the inner part of the scalloped circle and the outer portions of the label shapes after I finished filming.

I hope you enjoy this video, in spite of my many goofs!

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Are you braving the Black Friday crowds?  I am!

Fifth Avenue Afterthoughts

Hello everyone.

I decided to continue the "Thankful" theme on my blog with another thank you card.  The last couple posts have been thank you cards and since Thanksgiving is so close, I decided to make another thank you card.

I wanted to pull out an old favorite, Fifth Avenue Floral, for this card.  I also combined it with the Afterthoughts hostess stamp set.  I love the "Thanks, I love being spoiled" sentiment.  I really do love being spoiled.  I was the only girl, with two older brothers, what do you expect?

Rich Razzleberry is quickly climbing the ranks on the list of my favorite colors.  I especially love combining it with Early Espresso.  I think my personal Christmas cards may even feature Rich Razzleberry (shhhh).

I used the "masking" technique a couple of times on this card.  Since I often film my videos without having made the card first, I often change my plans...and that's okay!  I was able to stamp a background on my card after I had assembled portions of it already.  Masking comes in handy!

Without further ado...the video!

Enjoy your day!

Engraved Greetings Double Take

Hello everyone!  I hope you are having a great week.

For today's video, I wanted to show you two cards.  That's right!  Two cards in one video.  The layout is the same and the stamp set is the same, but the colors and embossing are different.  You don't have to reinvent the wheel every time you make a card.  Simply changing colors and patterns will give you a completely different feel.

The card on the right side of the picture features the Elegant Lines embossing folder, Rich Razzleberry, Basic Black, Crumb Cake and Very Vanilla card stock.  I also used the wide striped grosgrain ribbon in black and accented it with an antique brad.

The card on the left side of the picture features the Northern Flurry embossing folder, Baja Breeze, Chocolate Chip, Crumb Cake and Very Vanilla card stock.  I used the Chocolate Chip striped grosgrain for this card and accented it with a different brad from the antique brads collection.  I love the Northern Flurry embossing folder.  The detail on the snowflakes is just stunning.

Enjoy your day!

Seasonal Sentiments Thanksgiving Card

Hello everyone.  I hope your week has been great!  I am having a great week.

This week's card is a Thanksgiving card.  This was also one of my Stamp Club projects for this month and I am using it for a project at a class I am teaching at my church next month.  It's really simple...but so elegant.

I used the Seasonal Sentiments stamp set from the Stampin Up Holiday Mini catalog.  It's a great set because it covers Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Valentine's Day.  Four stamps, four holidays.  I also used the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder.  It's one of my favorites.

The base of the card is Riding Hood Red.  It was cut at 4 1/4 x 8 1/2 and scored at 4 1/4 to create a 4 1/4 x 4 1/4 inch card.  Sometimes I get tired of making A2 sized cards.  I have also made this card in an A2 format as well and it looks great too!

The video gives a little bit of instruction on using your Big Shot machine with the embossing folders and Sizzlits dies.

Enjoy your day!

10K Day

Hello everyone.  Today was the big day!  I have been training for this race for a few months.  I am not really a runner.  My friend Breanne convinced me to challenge myself by running in the Kingsburg Harvest Fair 10K with her.  Now that it's over, I can truly say that I am so glad I did it.

We had three goals for this race.
1.  To finish.
2.  To run the entire distance...no walking.
3.  To not be the very last people to cross the finish line.

Guess what!  We accomplished all of our goals.  There's nothing better than challenging yourself, setting some goals and reaching them in the end!

I was so glad that I had Breanne by my side the entire time.  It makes all the difference in the world to have a friend by your side, encouraging you the entire way.  And I was thrilled that my husband was waiting for me at the finish line, video camera and still camera in hand.  He even hugged me when I was drenched in sweat.

Here is a little video I put together of the finish of our race.  Keep in mind, we had just ran 6.2 miles.  No making fun of the awful picture at the end.  And yes...that old man beat us!

Tags Til Christmas Card

Hey everyone!  I was finally able to get a video filmed and uploaded.  I went to film yesterday...and my tripod was broken, so I had to run out and buy one to get this done!

I love the way this card turned out.  I actually started with an idea from the Stampin Up! Holiday Mini catalog.  I changed the colors and the stamp and added a few touches of my own.

The colors are Baja Breeze, Cherry Cobbler (I love this red) and Old Olive.  Of course, I had to add some Crumb Cake card stock as well.  There are a lot of elements on this card, but it is a relatively simple card. Then white gel pen added a special touch and really made it stand out.

I hope you have a great weekend.  Enjoy your day!

School, and Kids and Training...Oh My!

Hello everyone! It's been quite a week and I thought I'd check in. My kids were home from school all week. Their school has one week off in October for Fall Intercession and it disrupts the flow around here. On top of that, I had my midterm on Thursday. So between studying for that, keeping my children entertained and training for next week's 10K, I've been a busy girl.

I have my idea for my next video planned out...and I plan on filming that sometime next week. I apologize that I didn't get to it this week. It has been on my to do list, but other priorities knocked it down a few notches.

On a happy note, I only have two weeks of clinicals remaining this semester. I will be done at the end of October. I will only be in school one day a week for the remainder of the semester. I am so excited about that. I will have time to do fun things for the holidays. It's the "most wonderful time of the year". I've already been singing Christmas carols at the top of my lungs and my husband is not amused.

I hope you have some fun things planned for the weekend. I am going to play Bunco at a hospital Guild fundraiser. My grandma was a guild member for 20 years and served a couple years as the Guild President. This is an event that we have been participating in for years. My grandma is no longer able to serve on the guild, but the hospital has always been close to her heart. It makes her so proud that I will soon be a nurse there.

We are also planning on watching baseball (we are big time Giants fans) and football (hoping my Fantasy Football team pulls out another win). And we won our softball game last night (my husband and I play on a co-ed softball team). And of course, we will be attending church tomorrow morning.

What are you planning for the weekend? I'd love to hear from you! Enjoy your day!

Perfect Punches Card

Hello everyone.  I hope you week is going well.  The good news is it's Friday!  The weekend is here and I hope you have some fun plans.

The other day, I needed a quick card for a friend's birthday.  I went to my craft room, threw some stuff together and this is what I came up with.  I was pleased with the way it turned out, so I decided to make a video on it.

I used my Sizzix Big Kick (Sizzix Big Shot...they're the same thing) and the Scallop Oval Frame die from Stampin Up for the centerpiece.  I also used my Big Kick again with the Elegant Lines embossing folder to emboss the oval and the background piece.  I love the Elegant Lines embossing folder and I think you will be seeing me use it more often.  The Big Kick was also used to cut out the label shape behind the smaller oval.

The Happy Birthday sentiment is from the Perfect Punches stamp set.  This stamp set was designed to work with some of your favorite Stampin Up punches.  I stamped the sentiment in Whisper White craft ink and then embossed it with white embossing powder.  Then I used my wide oval punch to punch it out.

Overall, this is a very simple card...but it looks like it takes a lot of time and effort.

Thanks for stopping by!  Enjoy your day!

Welcome To My Craft Room

Hello everyone.  I hope you are having a wonderful day.  My day has been very productive so far.  Currently, I am taking a break from studying for my midterm.  But I’ve also managed to squeeze in a run, do some other school work, and finish up a card for a friend’s birthday.  It's overcast here, and I am just praying it will pour down rain.  I love the rain, especially when I can stay inside most of the day...which I can do today.

There have been one or two of you who have been requesting a craft room video.  I filmed this video a couple of weeks ago, but once again, was having trouble getting it to upload.  The Internet seems to be working so much better here, but uploading this video was problematic.

So without further ado, welcome to my craft room!  A craft room re-do was part of my summer projects.  The last items to arrive were my chairs...and they took forever!  But they are a great fit and they are pretty comfortable too!

When I was filming this video, I thought it wouldn't be very long at all.  It turns out, I can talk a whole lot about my craft room.  I had to edit some of it out and it still ended up being long!

I hope you have a wonderful day!  Thanks for visiting!

Haunted House Video

My video finally uploaded!  I have a technician coming to check out our internet lines tomorrow.  I sure hope they can fix the problem.  It is really putting a damper on not only my blog uploads, but my own internet surfing.

Here is the video I promised on the Haunted House (see previous post).  Enjoy your day!

Haunted House Milk Carton

Hello everyone.  I am working on getting a video uploaded.  Unfortunately, my internet is at it again.  I've been trying to upload all week.  In fact, I have two videos ready to go, but can't get them to upload.  I made a call to Verizon DSL and they are supposed to be coming to check out the problem.  As you can probably tell, I am very frustrated.

I wanted to share this fun project with you.  This is one of the videos I have prepared.  I thought I would give you a sneak peak while I am working on uploading the video.  This was made with the Sizzix Mini Milk Carton die, which is a Stampin Up exclusive.  I was inspired by my friend Breanne and  Angie's birdhouse project to make this project.

As I said, a video will be coming on this project....as soon as I can get it to upload.  I also have a video tour of my craft room coming for those of you who are curious.

On a more personal note, school is going well.  I have completed one of two five week clinical rotations for the semester.  The second starts on Tuesday of this week.  I will be done with my clinical rotations by the end of October, which means I will only be in school one day a week for November and December.  I am especially excited about that because I will have lots of time to work on Christmas projects, do Christmas shopping and really enjoy the holiday season this year.  I love Thanksgiving and Christmas!  It's the most wonderful time of the year.

We also started back to softball last night.  My husband and I play on a co-ed team together and he also plays on a men's softball team that are mostly guys from our church.  Our Friday nights will be spent at the field.  We won our first game last night...and I managed to hurt my shoulder.

I am still working on my running for the 10K at the end of October.  Running is a lot of work.  And while I say I hate every moment of it, there is a certain satisfaction that I get knowing I've just ran several miles.

I hope you find some time to relax this weekend.  I am currently in my craft haven, working on some ideas for Christmas presents.  I love it!  Enjoy your day!

For You Flower And Fabulous Phrases

Once again, this video is later than I anticipated due to problems with uploading.  If I had any other options for internet providers where I live, I would be switching immediately.  I've been so frustrated with it lately.

This card is a quick little notecard.  I set out to use some of the new Poppy Parade card stock and twill ribbon.  I love the twill ribbon.  I wish it was available in a ton of colors.  My only problem with it is that the rolls are too large to fit on my ribbon rack.  I have had to improvise a solution.

I used both the For You Flower stamp set and the Fabulous Phrases stamp set.  These are both so versatile. If you are looking for a sentiment set with lots of options, this may be the one for you.  You can combine words to make your own phrases.  It's lots of fun.

School is going well.  I had my first quiz yesterday and it went well.  I am also officially IV certified now.  I even let a couple of other nursing students stick me...and I managed NOT to pass out.  I was a little light headed, but stayed in the game.

I hope your day is going well!  And that you have a wonderful weekend!

Enjoy your day!

Sweet Scoops With A Cherry On Top

Hello everyone!  This week is flying by!  I can't believe tomorrow is Friday.  I just don't feel like I have enough time to get everything done this week.

Today is my niece's 4th birthday.  I wanted to make a card with bright colors and a little bit of glitter.  I love the A Word For You stamp set, so that's where I started for this card.  Then I started digging through my stamp sets to see which one had "a cherry on top" to match the sentiment.  I ended up using the Sweet Scoops stamp set.

I have to admit, as I was planning this card, I wasn't quite sure that I would like the colors.  I wanted to use red and yellow (because her gift had a lot of red and yellow in it).  I decided to use green as the third color. I started with Wild Wasabi, but ended up liking the Pear Pizzazz much better.  In the end, I was thrilled with this card...and I think I may have to use this one for a stamp club project.

I hope you have a wonderful day!  I am off to school.  I have school tomorrow too.  An extra day at school this week and next for my IV certification.  You know what the worst part is?  My husband doesn't have school tomorrow.  He has a furlough day and I have to go to school on a day that I would normally have off!  It's so annoying.

Enjoy your day!

Owl Punch Get Well Card

Hello everyone!  I hope you are having a wonderful week.  I promise, I tried to get this video up sooner this week.  It was all ready to go, and I had troubles getting it to upload to You Tube.  Our internet service provider is horrible here.

I wanted to create a funky little owl card.  I loved the zig zag paper in the Greenhouse Gala designer series paper pack.  I thought it was fun, funky and the colors are amazing.  The colors are very masculine.  But overall, I think the card could be either for a man or a woman.

I used several punches to make this card and there was very little stamping.  I used the Owl Punch, the Bird Punch (for the branch), the new 2 3/8 inch Scallop Circle punch, the little heart punch, the Modern Label punch and the Word Window punch.  Whew!  That's a lot of punching.

The sentiment is from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set.  I know I use this set a lot.  It works so well with the Word Window punch and the Modern Label punch.  There seems to be a sentiment for every occasion in that stamp set.

I did get some new stamp sets last week, but I haven't had time to play with them yet.  I have some things I need to get done for school.  If I can manage to stay focused, I should have them done this weekend and maybe I'll get to spend some time crafting in my craft room instead of working on homework in my craft room!

It's been a very busy week at school for me.  I am currently working on a nursing care plan that is due on Tuesday.  It was also my first week back at the hospital.  I really hate those 4:10 am wake up calls on clinical days!  And somehow, I am still managing to keep up with the laundry, cook dinner for the family and get a couple of runs in to train for the 10K in October!

I hope you had a wonderful week and that your weekend is relaxing.

Enjoy your day!

Back To School Goodies

It's official. I have survived my first week back at school. But next week is when it will really kick into high gear. Surprisingly enough, I am taking it all in stride this semester and seem to be relatively relaxed for being in nursing school.

I wanted to share some projects that I made for some teacher friends of mine.  They returned to school this week as well, and I wanted to give them something to make them feel special and to start the school year out on a happy note. I used each of their favorite colors. I also used the new owl punch for Breanne's gift set, because she loves owls. I know you've seen me use these tins before. They were such a great deal and make such a great holder for goodies.

In each tin, there are two pens. One has black ink and the other has red (for grading papers). There are five large paper clips that have been jazzed up and one mega paper clip that has been jazzed up. There are also two bookmarks, a journal and a Post-it note holder. It's all just a lot of fun stuff that I know they will find useful throughout the school year...and will look cute on their desk too!

For the owl set, I used So Saffron Designer Series Paper, Basic Gray, Blushing Bride and So Saffron Card Stock.  I also used some Pear Pizzazz for the stems that the owls sit on.  The stem is cut from the Bird punch.  The larger owls were cut on my Cricut using the Create a Critter Cartridge.

The Butterflies are from the Beautiful Wings embosslit folder and also from the Beautiful Butterflies Sizzix die.  I used Rich Razzleberry Designer Series Paper, along with Old Olive, Rich Razzleberry and Elegant Eggplant Card Stock.  I added some glitter to the butterflies along the embossing to really make them sparkle.

I used the Scallop Circle Punch and the XL Scallop Circle Punch for both sets.  I embossed the circles with the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder.  It really added some much needed texture.  The circles are attached to the paper clips using glue dots.  It really seems like you can do just about anything with glue dots!

In order to make the paper clips stand up in the tin, I used a small block of floral foam.  I just stuck them right in.  You can see the foam in the picture on the right.

I hope you enjoyed these projects.  I had a lot of fun making them...and giving them.  Sometimes, the giving part is just as fun as the making part.  I know some of you out there know what I am talking about.  Maybe you want to give a special teacher a little back to school gift.  It would be fun to take it to their Back To School Night events.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!  I will be up early in the morning to get in another run this week.  I am training for a 10K and it's hard to run on school days...so Saturday has now become a running day.  Enjoy your day!

Mourning the loss of summer

I am always amazed by how extremely busy I become at this time of year. The kids are back in school and I am gearing up to go back myself. I always get a little nervous about school starting, probably because I know that I will be so busy and have so much to do every single day. I start back to school on Tuesday. I will be starting my third semester of the nursing program. My husband, who is a high school math teacher, will also be starting back to school on Tuesday. We are mourning the loss of summer.

I spent my morning listing some stuff on eBay that I have been meaning to list all summer. It's not like me to wait until the very last minute, but at least I got it done. (There is some crafting stuff and my username on eBay is carissay.) I am also preparing for Stamp Club which is at my house tomorrow night. I have some yummy snacks planned for the club girls. I am going to try a Tiramisu Brownie recipe. I don't like chocolate, so I don't know if they'll be any good...but it sounded good. It has coffee in it, so how can you go wrong?

Right now, the house is completely quiet and I am just enjoying it. It won't last for long. This afternoon will kick off an evening full of stuff...including orthodontic appointments and Back To School Night for my son. I'm contemplating going into my craft room or just sitting in the quiet, drinking my iced coffee.

I hope you are having a wonderful summer day. I know I am.

Enjoy your day!

Aviary Card

Hello everyone!  I hope you are having a great weekend!  We have been very busy, but having lots of fun!

I thought I would end this weekend by adding another video to my blog.  This card was inspired by a card that I saw on Split Coast Stampers.  I used bot the Aviary stamp set and A Word For You stamp set.  Both sets are new this year to the Stampin Up catalog and they are definitely among my favorites.

The shape of this card is a little different.  It's fun to do a different kind of card every now and then.  The base is Baja Breeze.  It is layered with Not Quite Navy, Very Vanilla and Crumb Cake.

I also tried out the new Dotted Scallop Ribbon border punch.  It is a really cool touch...and a must have tool.

You will see that I struggled a little bit with alignment on this card.  If you are looking for perfection, you won't find it here!  You can use your Stamp-a-majig to make sure you are perfectly lined up.  I often like to do things the most difficult way possible, so I hope that you will learn from my mistakes.

On a more personal note, we had a fun Back To School service at church this morning.  I teach music to the Kindergarten through 5th graders.  Our group is called The Sparks.  We opened service with two fun songs this morning.  They did really well.  Our high school department preformed a drama and the youth band led worship.  It was a  fun change of pace.

If you are interested in following me on Twitter, my id is carissawiley.  I am also on Facebook.  But please let me know that you are a fellow crafter...or I may not approve your friend request.

I hope the rest of your Sunday is relaxing.  We are back to church tonight for another special service.  We are getting the kids all geared up for school.

Enjoy your day!

Pleated Flower Tutorial

Here is a quick video for you, showing you how to make the flowers shown in the Stampin Up catalog on page 123. It is a really simple and quick process. I had a customer request instructions on this. They would make great decorations on gift bags, cards, tables and packages.

My kids went back to school today, so it's been a busy day. The good news is that they both really like their teachers. The bad news is they both came home with HUGE packets of paper that has to be filled out. When are they going to computerize this process? It's just ridiculous! Oh well. Here we go again. Another school year is under way.

Enjoy your day! I have some fun videos coming up soon. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for watching. Be sure to rate, comment and subscribe. I love to read comments!

Curly Cute Tiny Teacup Card

There are so many things that I love about this card. I love the colors. I love the Tiny Teacup. I love the sentiment. The card is very simple, but not so simple that it seems like it's lacking something.

I love the new In-Color Pear Pizzaz. I know I've said it before, but I painted my craft room that exact color before I even knew that it was going to be an In-Color. The paint color is actually called Grasscloth, but they are identical. I just got the coordinating ribbon in...and I love it too! It's a change up from the normal grosgrain ribbon that I use.

I hope you enjoy this video! There's a funny little mishap in it. These things happen when we craft!

On a more personal note, my two youngest start school in one week!  Crazy, huh?  That makes me nervous, because it means that I will be starting back to school soon, too!  Oh my goodness!  It makes me so nervous just thinking about it.  The good news is that I only have one year left.  I can hardly believe I am going to be a registered nurse in one year!

Enjoy your day!  I hope you get a good laugh at my expense in this video.

Petal Pizzazz Get Well Card

Hello everyone.  I hope you are having a wonderful summer.  It has been miserably hot here...but we are surviving it.

A friend of mine from nursing school had surgery a couple of weeks ago, and I needed to make a get well card for her.  I wanted it to be young and fun.  I pulled out the Petal Pizzazz set and went to work.  I also used the Newsprint designer series paper.  I love this paper.  It is so versatile.

I also thought it would be fun to make this card a little different size.  I have used this size before.  I ended up using a 5x7 envelope for this card.  The envelope was a little too large and not at all ideal, but it worked in a pinch.

Overall, I am pleased with the way the card turned out.  How can you not love something that has a huge rhinestone and gorgeous ribbon?

Summer has still been very busy around here.  We just got home last night from a couple day trip to see my brother, his wife and little boy in the Pasadena area.  We saw the Giants and the Dodgers play on Monday night.  My brother is a die hard Dodger fan, and we are die hard Giants fans.  It was a fun night.  The game was great...and the Giants won!

Today the kids start day camp.  It actually started Monday, but we were out of town, so they didn't get to start until today.  They are really excited...and I'm excited to have some quiet time here.  It ends Friday and they get to go to the water slides.

I hope you have a wonderful day. I am expecting an order from Stampin Up today.  Maybe I will have some time to play with my new goodies while the kids are away!

Enjoy your day!

It's The Thought-Masculine Birthday Card

I needed yet another masculine birthday card, this one for my brother's birthday.  This card needed to be simple and quick.  As I perused my stamp sets for inspiration, I realized that I hadn't even touched my It's The Thought hostess set.  That was it.  I was going to use this stamp set.  How could  you resist that cute little owl?  And what better with an owl stamp, than the Woodgrain background stamp?

Crumb Cake (formerly Kraft) Card Base
5 1/2 X 8 1/2

Early Espresso
4 1/4 X 2
Circle 1 3/8

Daffodil Delight
Circle 1 3/4

Very Vanilla
Circle 1 1/4

Tangerine Tango
1 3/4 x 4 1/4
The Crumb Cake base was stamped with the Woodgrain stamp in Crumb Cake ink.  I also stamped the Tangerine Tango strip with the Woodgrain stamp (also in Crumb Cake Ink).  The owl was stamped in Early Espresso ink and colored with Watercolor Wonder Crayons.  For the "birthday wishes" sentiment, I used the Wow Flowers stamp set (now retired).  It was also stamped in Early Espresso ink.

I hope you enjoyed this post.  And I hope you have been inspired.  This card was very quick and easy to create.

It is still horribly hot here.  I think we will be taking the kids swimming at my Grandma's house today.  It's been around 105-106 and it's very humid for our area.  We are just hoping to stay cool today.  I hope you are staying cool as well!

Enjoy your day!

Greenhouse Gala Friend Card

When I saw this paper, I knew I just had to have it.  The colors are so rich and warm.  It's absolutely gorgeous.  It also coordinates with the Friends Never Fade stamp set, which I just happen to have!  I thought I would make a card for a friend, whose favorite color is yellow.  The new Daffodil Delight is a great color.  I really thought I would miss Summer Sun, but I have decided this yellow is way better!  Thank you Stampin' Up!  Once again, you've done a fabulous job!

I am really enjoying all of the new colors and products in this year's catalog.  I think the Color Renovation was far overdue.  I really think I will use all of the colors now, instead of just a few.  There were several of the colors that I just didn't use before. How about you?  Are you loving the Color Renovation that Stampin' Up has done?

I really meant to have this post up sooner.  We got back from traveling what seemed like the whole state (San Francisco, Tahoe and Los Angeles) and then I just completely went brain dead.  I kept forgetting to upload the video so that I could post to my blog.  I guess I really was exhausted from all of the traveling that we did.

I hope you are having a wonderful summer.  It sure is heating up here!  It will be 106 degrees this week for several days.  Yuck!  I hope you are staying cool wherever you are!  I will TRY to do the same!

Enjoy your day!

Friends Never Fade Anniversary Card

Hello everyone. I hope you are having a wonderful day. We are home sweet home, but not for long. This summer is jammed packed with all kinds of things.  Honestly, I am looking forward to it slowing down a bit.  It's fun to go go go, but I feel like I just want to be home in my own bed for a while!

In July, two of my closest friends celebrate their anniversaries. Actually, they celebrate them one day apart. I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to put some of my new stamp sets to use. For this card, I used the Friends Never Fade stamp set, as well as the Artistic Etchings stamp set. Both sets are new this year.  I also used the new Vintage Wallpaper impressions folder.  There are some great new products in the new catalog. I hope you will check it out!

Looking back at this card, I think the square in the middle could stand to be a little smaller.  I love the color scheme.  Also, can you see the paper in the background?  That is another new item in this year's catalog.  It is from the Greenhouse Gala Designer Paper pack.

In other news, I am still waiting on some last items to finish my craft room.  I feel like it's the project that never ends.  I ordered chairs online because I needed a special height for my tables (which are 36 inch counter height).  They have been delayed.  I ordered them in mid-June and they are not expected to ship until August 9th now!  I am so frustrated.  I just want this to be done.  I will be lucky if the chairs arrive by the time I have to return to school on August 17th.  My craft room will also have to double as my study space, so I need those chairs!

I hope you are having a wonderful summer!  I hope you are finding time to do what you love the most and spending time with those you love the most.  I would love to hear what you've been up to!  Feel free to leave comments here or on my You Tube channel!  Enjoy your day!

Let Freedom Ring

Happy Fourth of July! I hope you are having a wonderful holiday and taking the time to celebrate your freedom. I am so thankful for the liberties that I have.

I am on vacation with my family. We have been at the family vacation home. The morning started early with some deck staining. There are three decks at the house that desperately needed some repair. My brothers, my husband and I stained all three decks before lunch. It was a lot of work, but it was a lot of fun to spend time working as a team.

Last night we walked down to the lake front and watched the fireworks. It was so beautiful! And it was cold! It is so weird to wear jackets and beanies to watch fireworks, especially when it's 103 at home. We were bundled up. We had to trek back to the house in the dark, through the woods and along the golf course, where we were dodging the sprinklers. It was quite an adventure, and my children thought we were going to be eaten by bears. Everyone made it back safe and sound and I am sure they will remember the adventure.

We also had some excitement when my oldest brother's wedding ring went missing. It is quite a long story. He had written it off as gone forever...sacrificed by his three year old to the porcelain god. But this morning, it turned up. He is thrilled, and so was his three year old.

So that's how I've been spending my holiday weekend so far. There are 13 of us here, all under one roof...and not nearly enough hot water! We have plans for a barbecue tonight...hamburgers, hot dogs, pasta salad...yummy! Tomorrow, we head home. So how have you been spending your weekend? What are your plans? Let me know! I would love to hear from you.

I hope you have a happy and safe Fourth of July! Remember the men and women who have sacrificed their lives so that you could live in freedom in this great country. God bless the U.S.A.

Trendy Trees Manly Birthday Card

Hello everyone. I hope you are having a wonderful week. We a having a wonderful week. We are going to spend some time with my brothers and all of their little ones this weekend.

I have a new video for you today. I needed a masculine card...which are always a little challenging. I know that the man I was making this for would really appreciate the tree theme, so I decided to use the Trendy Trees stamp set. It's a great little stamp set and I think it doesn't get nearly enough use.

Don't forget that today, July 1, 2010, the new Stampin Up catalog is available. You can head on over to my Stampin Up site to check it out! www.carissawiley.stampinup.net. I am really excited about this new catalog. There are lot a of fun new things, including all the new color collections and coordinating accessories. I love the new stamp sets too! All of the new stamp sets are available in clear mount as well as wood mount. That means you can choose which fits your stamping style and budget the best. I am a clear mount girl myself, but if you prefer the traditional wood mount, you can get that too. Isn't that great?

Enjoy your day! Have a wonderful and safe Fourth of July. Celebrate your freedom. Freedom is such a precious gift! It has cost many men and women their lives. I hope you celebrate freedom in your own special way! My heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all the men and women who have sacrificed their time and their lives in order to guarantee my freedom.

Girly And Grungy

Hello everyone! I hope you are having a wonderful Monday. We have some exciting things going on in our family in the next couple of weeks. It's going to be a busy couple of weeks. But I have planned ahead and have all of my videos ready to go for you.

Today's card is for my daughter who will be turning 12 on Thursday. She's kind of at "that stage". I wanted to create a card that was girly, but also had that grungy, "teenager" vibe. Something told me that sparkly cupcakes weren't going to cut it this year. I had to make something "cooler". I am actually very pleased with how this one turned out. I just hope she doesn't think it's too Hannah Montana.

The background stamp that I used, Tres Chic, is one of the items retiring this month. You have until June 30th to order. If you feel you must have it, you can go to my Stampin Up website, www.carissawiley.stampinup.net, and order 24 hours a day.

Enjoy your day!

Retiring Products Card

Hello everyone.  I have another card for you.  This card uses several of the retiring products from the 2009-2010 Stampin Up catalog.  There are several products retiring and there are several colors retiring.  Be sure that you have your reinkers and card stock for your favorite colors.

Taken with Teal is one of the colors I am going to miss the most from the current color collections.  I really love the way Taken with Teal looks with Chocolate Chip, Old Olive and it looks great with Pumpkin Pie too!

The Tres Chic background stamp is also retiring.  I used it on this card as well.

I hope you are having a great summer and staying cool.  It's heating up here!

Enjoy your day!

Artistic Etchings Father's Day

I honestly don't know how this happened, but this video has been uploaded to my You Tube account since Saturday, and I didn't post it to my blog. Oh well! Better late than never?

I used some new products from the 2010-2011 Stampin Up catalog. I LOVE the new Newsprint designer paper. It's so versatile! I also love the new Cherry Cobbler card stock.

I hope you had a wonderful Father's Day weekend.  After church on Sunday morning, we hung out at home.  In the evening, we had my in-laws over for steak.  It was yummy!  Then we played some dominoes.  We love to play games!

Keep checking back!  I've been working on some stuff!

Enjoy your day!

With All My Heart Scrap Card

I wanted to "throw" together a quick card and it all started with a scrap on my desk.  I had a piece of textured chocolate chip card stock on my desk that had already been stamped with the Woodgrain background stamp.  I also had a scrap piece of ribbon...and it turned into a thing.  I decided I would only use scraps for this card.  Even the card base was a scrap (which is why it is an odd size).  I actually really love this little card.

I bought the Sizzlits Lots of Labels set a little while back, and I have not used them nearly enough.  The Pumpkin Pie label was cut using Label #2 from that set.  It's fund to layer labels and punches to create more interest.

You will see in this video that I am not perfect.  I goof up and make mistakes all the time...and then I go with it.  You don't have to be perfect when you craft...just do it!

Thank you for hanging in there with me while I've redone my craft room!  I will do a video of it when I have it done.  I am still settling in and reorganizing things.

Thanks for watching!  Enjoy your day!

Under Construction

Hello everyone! I got an email today asking me where I have been. It's kind of a crazy story (or maybe just average, but it's been crazy here). I thought when summer rolled around I would have more time to make some videos...and I bet you thought so too!

About a week and a half ago, I decided to clean my craft room. Well, that craft room cleaning turned into a full on craft room re-do. I have torn my entire craft room apart, and I almost have it put back together. I have repainted, searched the world over for the perfect craft room furniture, bought it, put it together, rearranged...the list goes on and on.

Then, on Thursday of last week, my husband and I left for a getaway in Lake Tahoe with our friends (you may remember Breanne from my CHA video). All of the kids stayed with their grandparents, and we had a relaxing weekend. I watched two movies while we were gone. I hardly ever sit still long enough to watch a movie. On the second night, it was decided that I am no longer allowed to choose the movies (the picture on the front looked good and it has Jennifer Aniston in it, so I thought it would be good). At least we had ice cream to keep us entertained during that movie.

We are in our way home from Tahoe right now. I convinced my husband to let me stop at Ikea on the way home to find the last little bits to complete my craft room. He is such a good sport! The closest Ikea to my house is three hours away, so I don't get to go very often. We are about three hours from home now. I have a video on my "list". It shouldn't be too long and I'll be "back in business". I'm thrilled with the way the re-do is going and I honestly can't wait to get in there and use the room I have worked so hard to put together. Thanks for asking where I've been (you know who you are), it makes me feel good to know you've missed me!

Enjoy your day!

A Quick Tip For You

I don't know if this is already out there, but I was looking for a quick way to get some paper onto the front of cards...and ensure that it was straight! This worked fabulously!

I am currently hard at work on a craft room re-do. I have been sweating away all day in there.

Enjoy your day!

Itty Bitty Bits and More From The Summer Mini

I've been waiting all year for the opportunity to get into my craft room and really go for it.  Yesterday was my first day out of school.  I went into my craft room, sat down and.....nothing.  I wasn't feeling the creative vibe.  So, I walked away for a while and watched some t.v. and ate some peanut butter.  When I returned to my room, I was still struggling with finding my creativity, but I did manage to get this card made.  It is really simple, but sweet.

I used quite a few of the new products from the Summer Mini catalog.  I used the Itty Bitty Bits stamp set, the Sweet Scoops stamp set, Smooch Spritz (so much fun) in Vanilla, the punch pack and the Mini Vintage Tags.  There are some really fun and vintage inspired products in the summer mini, so be sure to check it out if you really like the vintage or shabby chic look.

I am hoping to get some more crafting done this week...although, I am completely out of Kraft card stock and I hardly know how to craft without that.  I also am planning a huge craft room clean out sale!

Enjoy your day!

Finally Finals

I just wanted all of you to know that my finals are tomorrow.  I am not really too nervous, but we will see how I feel in the morning.  That could all change in an instant.  I am really thrilled that I will be done for the summer after tomorrow.  I really cannot believe that I have made it through my first year of nursing school.  I only have one more year.  There are times that it seems like it is flying by and other times that it seems that it is crawling.  One thing is for sure, I have NOT had a single moment of boredom since I began nursing school in August.

I am planning on doing a lot of crafting in the next couple of weeks.  I have to make teacher gifts for all of my kids' teachers.  I am thinking of something similar to the cherry gifts that I made for my teachers.  I am planning on making another video Tuesday, so look for it Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning.  The uploads take a while, so sometimes I put them on overnight while we are sleeping so that the internet connection isn't all clogged up by my uploads (which really bugs my hubby and I try not to do that).

We have a lot of fun things planned for the summer.  My kids are thrilled that they get to go to a day camp here in our home town.  They've never really done anything like that before and they are really looking forward to that.  Also, we have a couple of trips to Lake Tahoe planned and a trip to see Mickey Mouse for the last time before our annual passes expire.  We will also be doing a lot of swimming at Grandma The Great's house (that's what my kids call my Grandma).  I also plan on having some marathon crafting sessions with my best crafting buddy, Breanne.  If you've been following my blog, you saw the video of us at CHA earlier this year.  Actually, it was a video of me laughing at her the whole time!  It still cracks me up (we had a fabulous time).  It's going to be a great summer.  I may even relax a little bit.  That will take some practice.  I am not very good at relaxing.

I hope you have had a wonderful weekend.  I have been studying...a lot...for finals.  I am on the final push now and I will get back to studying now.  Have a wonderful day!  And say a prayer for me tomorrow as I take my finals!

Cherries Everywhere!

Here are the gifts that I made for MY teachers this year.  I am so thrilled to be in my craft room, I can hardly stand it.  I should be studying for finals, but I just really needed a day to myself, and what a better way to spend it than to make something to give away.  Truthfully, I think that's one of the best parts of my craft, I get to give it away. Each tin has a set of seven cherry cards in it and envelopes.  The tin also has a post it note holder, two cherry pens, and four Ghirardelli chocolate squares.  I bought the tins at Target in the dollar section.  What a find!  I just added a ruffle of red grosgrain and a black button to dress it up and give it some pizzazz.  I am really thrilled with the way these all turned out and I think my nursing professors and going to love them!  Finals are Monday.  I've been longing for summer and now it's just around the corner!

Sweet Scoops, Sweet Set

I hope you are all having a wonderful Sunday afternoon.  I am studying, as usual.  I hate having all of my quizzes and tests on Monday, because it means I am holed up in my office most of Sunday getting ready for the day ahead.

This project was created with the new Sweet Scoops stamp set.  This stamp set was designed for kissing.  If you aren't sure what that is, watch the video and you will know exactly what I am talking about.  I used a Melon Mambo base.  I also used Pink Pirouette, which will be making its comeback as a regular color in July and Chocolate Chip, which is here to stay.

Stampin Up is getting to do a Color Renovation.  They will be discontinuing several of the colors that are currently in the line.  The good news is that they are bringing back some favorite In-Colors and adding a few new colors to their line.  I have posted the pdf files below which shows the new color lines (there will only be 40 colors instead of 48), as well as the discontinued colors.  Remember, you have until July to stock up on some of your favorites.  And make sure you have your re-inkers for all of you stamp pads...this will make them last a really long time!

If you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them.  I am really excited about these new color collections.  They are so beautiful!

Fancy Flower Mother's Day Card

Hello everyone! I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. Saturday is baseball day. Preston has a game at 11 today, so we will be headed out to the field soon.

I have a really quick and easy project for you for Mother's Day. No doubt, there are some of you who still need to whip up a Mother's Day card or two! I used the XL Fancy Flower punch (which is getting a lot of use from me). I also used the Messages for Mom stamp set. The flower was punched in Taken With Teal card stock, which is one of the colors that is retiring when the Color Renovation takes place. I would suggest that you get reinkers for all of your pads that will be retiring and stock up on some of your favorite card stocks. I am personally thrilled about the color renovation, but I will miss Taken With Teal. It's one of my favorites!

Yesterday was "Moms For Lunch" day at my son's school. It is a day where moms or grandmas, come and bring their child lunch and have lunch with them. The school is right across the street from a nice park, so they let you take your kids across the street and eat at the park if you prefer. My kids wanted McDonald's, so I brought them happy meals and we sat on a blanket to eat at the park. Thirty minutes in the sun, and I got burned on my shoulders! I am not surprised...that's kind of how my summer goes. We had a nice time. It was nice to slow down from my busy schedule and spend some time just talking to my kids.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mommies out there! I know you work hard to keep life balanced for you and your family. I hope you find some time to do whatever it is that you enjoy the most this weekend!

Wonderful Mother Fancy Favor Bag

Hello everyone! I finally got a chance to sneak away to my craft room and make a video. I wish I could have stayed there longer, but the school work calls. The good news is that summer break is right around the corner. I feel like the "Little Engine That Could" right now. "I think I can. I think I can. I think I can." I just keep on chugging along.

This week's project is a Mother's Day project. Mother's day is one week from today, so if you haven't gotten a start on it already, then you better get to moving!

I made these "grunge" flowers for a card I did at stamp club this past week and they were a hit, so I thought I would incorporate them into a project for my blog. They are a lot of fun to make and no two ever come out exactly alike. The heat tool really helps you get the shape that you want.

As for the rest of the project, it's very simple. You could whip these out in no time at all!

Have a wonderful Sunday. We are off to church this morning and then we will be home so that I can study for tomorrow's quizzes. I just hate that quizzes are always on Mondays. It leaves me very little time to relax on Sundays.

Enjoy your day!
