Sugar Rush From Studio Calico Is Here

Once a month, I get a very awesome package in the mail.  It comes with all kinds of card making supplies from Studio Calico that have been expertly assembled to coordinated beautifully!  It's a very happy time!  This month's kit is called Sugar Rush and I think you're going to LOVE it!

Here are the projects that I have made with the Sugar Rush Kit and Taffy Add On Kit.

This card uses just the main kit and the coordinating digital filesI love the digital files.  They make fussy cutting a snap!  I added some embroidery thread for my kite string and some glossy accents to the heurts on the kite to punch this card up a notch!  Small little details like that can really make a simple card a stellar card!

This may just be my favorite.  I used supplies from the Taffy Add On to create this birthday card.  The gold foil hexagon vellum is to die for…and I want to hoard it!  No seriously.  I WANT TO HOARD THAT VELLUM!

Another simple yet totally lovable card using supplies from only the main card kit, Sugar Rush.  I used a square from one of the patterned papers to create my focal sentiment/image for this card.  I added a couple of die cut hearts from the digital cut files, colored with Copic markers.  A couple thick coats of glossy accents to the center heart makes this card shine!  And I completed the card with a bit of gold stitching around the perimeter.

I used both the Taffy Add On Kit and the Sugar Rush main kit to create this card.  I masked the stamp so that it just says "hello" and embossed it on some vellum.  The navy twine?  That comes in the Taffy kit…and I'm in LOVE.  Those enamel hearts are fabulous (you'll find those in the main kit).  See the video below to find out how I made them the perfect shade of pink for the LOVE card below.

Those hearts?  They're exactly the same as the one above.  I just colored them to match my color scheme for this card.  This card uses items from the main kit and the digital cut files.  I absolutely adore that love cut.  I love cutting my cuts from white paper, and using markers, mists and inks to color them to match my project.  There's a video below showing you the entire creation of this card.

If there was ever a stamp that was made just for me, it was THIS stamp!  And how could I use a stamp like that without using some gold glitter?  This card's a breeze to create and watch for a video (coming soon to the blog) showing exactly how I created those perfectly round glitter polka dots!  This stamp comes from the Sugar Rush main kit.

Another sparkly card…just so I could indulge in that fabulous gold glitter some more!

I used another piece of the paper that I used for the Heart You card above to create this card as well.  The patterns in this month's kit are fabulous enough to stand alone!  And this card proves it!

I've included links to all the kits below, as well as some of the other items I used to create these cards.  And I've also included a video showing how I created the Love card.

Studio Calico doesn't just have card kits!  You can see all of this month's kits here.  There's a scrapbook kit and a Project Life kit too!  Enjoy!

Lindsay Letter Monogram Cards

I wanted to stop in quickly to share some quick letterpress cards I created using the soon to be released Linsday Letter Monogram Letterpress Plate and Die Set from Studio Calico.  I've been wanting a letterpress plate with coordinating die set for years and I've finally found one!

This printing plate set is so organic.  It makes beautiful cards.  With such an organic looking wreath, I decided I would combine it with the Woodgrain Letterpress Plate and blind emboss the background (which means I used the letterpress plate without any ink).

The coordinating dies are wonderful!  You can use it many ways.  Cut your paper and letterpress it to create a pop-up piece for the front of your card.  Or use the die to create a window and letterpress inside that window like I've done here.

I've also used the heart die to deboss a heart on the front of this card.  These would make fabulous wedding thank you notes!  The blind embossing saves time and ink….and clean up too!  I just love the look of blind embossed letterpress.  It's so rich and elegant.  (This technique is oh so hard to photograph, but in real life it is stunning.)

I love to use monogram letterpress cards for teacher gifts.  They're easy to mass produce.  Once you have your plates set on your letterpress tool, just re-ink and keep on pressing!

In order to create the olive green ink, I used the green ink and added some brown ink to it.  That gave me the perfect shade of green for these cards!

The Lindsay Letter Letterpress Set will go on sale on Monday, January 27th at noon EST.  So if you're already a Studio Calico subscriber, add it to your order and save on shipping!

Have a fabulous day!

Wood Veneer Valentine

Can you believe Valentine's day is just a month away?  Where is time going?  I'm trying to get a head start on everything this year, so I thought I'd jump right into the Valentine's Day card making.

I wanted to make a Valentine that included hearts, but still felt masculine.  I chose some real wood paper to give the hearts a decidedly masculine feel.  And I kept the rest of the card clean and simple.  You could use patterned paper or colored card stock in place of the wood paper for the hearts, but I thought it would be fun to try this product out.

The wood paper cut beautifully with the dies from Lifestyle Crafts.  Like butter.

Don't forget, when shopping at www.shopwer.com, the We R Memory Keepers online shop, use the coupon code GLITTER to save 20% off your entire order.

I've included a video below that walks you through the entire creation of this card.  I've also included links to all the products (including that awesome wood paper) used in this project below.

Polka Dot Thank You Studio Calico's CHA Virtual Crop Challenge

Today, as a part of the Studio Calico CHA Virtual Crop, I have a color challenge for you!  You can head over to Studio Calico’s site and check out other projects from this challenge.

As I was out running errands the other day, I found this adorable skirt.  I would’ve bought it right then and there if it were in a size to fit my daughter (who probably would’ve snubbed her nose and refused to wear it anyway).

So I decided to use this adorable polka dot skirt to inspire my card and my color challenge for you!  Your challenge is to create a project (card, layout or otherwise) using this color scheme-navy, pool, lime, pink and GOLD!  That’s right, GOLD!  This girl loves gold!  And guess what….it works fabulously with these colors.  Doesn’t this color scheme just make you dream of spring?

I used some vellum and the backs of some circle shaped Studio Calico stamps to create a polka dot pattern on the back of the vellum.  I chose to use the back of the vellum so that the colors would have the gauzy appearance that the skirt has.  It just gives it a softer look.

To bring in the gold, I heat embossed my greeting and some fabulous hearts on the front of the vellum.  This gives the card just a bit of shine (I love shiny things).

I have included a how to video below, walking you through the entire creation of this card.  I’ve also included links to the products used in this video below.

A few tips for heat embossing on vellum-

1.  Prepare your surface with a powder tool or powder bag to keep excess embossing powder from sticking to your project where you don’t want it.

2.  Preheat your heat gun by turning it on and letting it blow for a few seconds before zapping your paper.

3.  Keep your heat tool moving to get the least amount of warping possible.

4.  Heat JUST until melted.

I’d love to see what you create with this color palate!  Head on over the Studio Calico and share your project there!

Thanks for stopping by!   I hope you have a fabulous day!
